7.3  Institutional distinctiveness

 

7.3..1  Performance of the institution in one area of distinctiveness related to its vision , priority and thrust.

 

Our institution gives more priority towards to inculcate certain values like spiritual, cultural, social etc.  For promoting spiritual values we conducted 20 minutes prayer for making them relax in the morning itself. we also organised  a lot of value based classes of  various resource persons like Dilipbetkekearji  (Importance of value education),Adityamunde sir ( discussed about the components of value education) , Dr.P.K.Madhavan sir,  ( Tell about the role of a teacher and  qualities of a good teacher ), Chandrasekharan master (Importance of Value education in children) , Sri . Gangadharan master (Discussed about the qualities of a good teacher and influence of teachers in development of a school),

Dr. Narayanan namboothiri sir (discussed about the values which required for a good teacher and for making our students a valuable teachers in the future).Through the programs like Human rights day, Gurupoornima, Vayanavaram, Independence day, Republic day, Gandhi jayanthi etc possible to inculcate cultural , National , Social values etc.  among our children.

For promoting social values among students our institution engaged in socially relevant matters like “Kaithang”. It is a charity activity in our college. Our college started this charity activity  2016 onwards. In this programmme our students distributed food to the poor people around the Palakkad locality in every week.

Our college give more priority towards the moulding of student teachers in to a professional level. For making them professional we arranged a lot of workshops related to ICT and teaching learning areas. Through ICT workshop students we could understand how interesting we could make our teaching learning experience effective and enjoyable by including such apps in our teaching.  Many other useful apps like Google meet, Zoom meet, Google classroom etc. were also introduced. The Samagra which is the government educational Portal where we can get text books of any medium and of any classes. Photoshop, it is software used for image editing. DU recorder, this software can be used to record our voice and video synchronising with the power point presentation that we have already created. Google Pay and Paytm is a very useful app in play store where we can pay from anywhere. Introduction of such apps were so resourceful for us.

The Practice

In and around the areas of college there are a lot of people suffering from so many diseases. To make them healthy these camps are  very useful.

Innovation and best practices

Blood donation camp.

Blood donation camp was organised by our college in corporation with district hospital Palakkad and Red cross society on 14/ 2 /2018.It was held in the prayer hall. The chief guest of the camp was the DMO of Palakkad district. A team of 5 doctors and nurses of district hospital came for collection of blood.  About 50 persons  had  volunteered for donating blood. There were also very prominent people of the city who were there to donate blood. A certificate of appreciation,

 

 

donation card, and refreshment was given to each donor as a token of gratitude. Blood donation is the greatest donation and noble step in the service of humanity .our staff and many students donated blood with proud hearts. Some of the visitors were also motivated to donate blood.  

Medical camp

BVNCTE in collaboration with the district hospital, Palakkad conducted a one day free medical camp at Lakshamveedu, anganavadikallekad . This was the first time that students and staff of BVNCTE were provided with general health check-ups. It was conducted on     24 /3 /2019 .More than 200 persons were treated  free of charge . BVNCTE students and staff volunteers performed a majority of the work hand in hand with the doctors from the district hospital. Free health check-up , blood group testing,  BP and sugar checking were provided. various conditions including malnutrition,  Jaundice and skin disorders were treated. And provide free medicines also. Dr Sreeram( District hospital, Palakkad),  Dr Jithin  (Karuna medical College Palakkad) provided an awareness class by suggesting simple preventive measures to protect health .   

Health awareness class and cleaning the Parali  health centre .               

 We also provided a health awareness class to anganavadis in Kallekkad , Edathara GUP School and Kallekkad UP school as a part of Gandhi jayanti celebration.  We also took initiative to clean the Parali health centre.

 

Evidence of success

Through these best practices the local people located in and around the college able to analyse their health issues. On the basis of this practice people become more conscious about their health.

People in Attapadi shows a negative attitude towards the outsiders

Make them to attend the awareness class  was a tough task

 

The Practice

In and around the areas of Attapadi there are a lot of people suffering from so many diseases and also they are addicted to drugs. To make them healthy and protect them from the over usage of drugs these camps are  very useful.

Innovation and best practices

 

As a part of rural development  the “  Vimukthi “ anti – Drug and liquor club and “Manikarnika” women development cell of  our instituition   visited Attapady twice on 22/4/2017 and 23/4/2017, 11/10/2018 to 13/7/2018  for providing an awareness classes. We conducted a previsit at Vivekananda mission hospital. We conducted an awareness class at Thavalam and Sholayurooru of Attapady. We also conducted a street play based on the theme health issues due to the usage of drugs.

 

Evidence of success

Through this best practices the people located in and around the Attapadi able to analyse their health issues and also aware about the over consumption of drugs. On the basis of this practice people become more conscious about their health.

   As a part of leveraging maintain good relationship with local environment. our institution arranged a lot of programs in connection with Pirayiripanchayat.

For doing such activities we faced a lot of challenges. First we don't get the support of people for doing the above activities .Many of them were unwilling to participate. It was a great problem for us to implement the above activities. we  also not get the permission properly from the concerned schools and authorities. since our college faced the above challenges , even though we overcome those challenges and do many social activities with the support of local environment.

Cleanliness

Our institution maintains plastic free campus.

Measures adopted to keep our campus clean

a)     Sweeping and mopping all hard surface flooring

b)    Vacuuming floors and carpets in administrative, classroom and dormitory building.

c)     Cleaning the walls, windows and other surfaces of rooms and buildings throughout the campus.

d)    Maintaining hand soaps and toiletries in public and dormitory rest rooms.

e)     Maintenance of floor drains to assure that floors drain and dry properly after cleaning.

f)      Proper storage of cleaning equipment and supplies to prevent rodents and pests.

g)     Use of effective and safe cleaning products in rest rooms, cafeterias and food preparation spaces.

h)    Maintain plastic free campus.

 

Measures adopted to keep our campus sanitation

a)     Providing sanitation facilities by providing toilets and latrines that flush in to a sewer or safe enclosure. There must be a bucket with water and a jug inside female latrines.

b)    Proper Health faucets were maintained in the bathroom.

c)     Promote good hygiene habits through education. Proper hand washing with soap and water can reduce diarrhoea.

d)    Providing clean and pure water through automatic water purifier.

e)     Provision of solid waste management facilities :

1)    Waste bins / buckets in each classroom and teacher’s office.

2)    Waste disposal pit at an appropriate location; a local incinerator can be used if the amount of college solid waste is significant.

3)    Waste handling facilities such as latrines, an incinerator.

4)    Sanitary Napkin incinerator is used for instant disposal of used napkins.

 

 

The covid 19 pandemic highlights the importance  of cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene to student’s health and wellbeing.

 

 

Measures adopted to keep our campus greenery

 

a)     Compost bin for food waste.

b)    Created a campus garden: Plant a garden to beautify your space or use it to grow some of your own vegetables.

c)     Grow your food: Created simple vegetable gardens in our nearby campus location.

 

d)    Green belt project : 

This project was started in the year 2014.  From that year onwards we maintained the plants in a good way. As a part of this project we planted near about 50 plants in the nearby campus. We mainly planted Nelli, Mahagony, Koovalam, Lakshmi tharu, Bamboo, Ariyaveppu  etc. In every year on June 5 th our college distribute one plant to each student. Through this project we keep our campus greenery.

e)     Avani  natural club

 

BVNCTE  formed  an  AVANI nature club  in the year on 2017. The forest department of Kerala invited our college for participating a 3 days nature camp. Near about 40 students became the members of this club.
